Drinking enough is essential on every hike – after all, summit happiness is only half as much fun when you’re dehydrated. 😉 That’s why we give you a thermos flask upon arrival, which you can use throughout your stay. Every morning, we also prepare fresh mountain herbal tea for you – simply fill up your thermos and off you go! For a little energy boost along the way, help yourself to our homemade muesli bars.

With a good pair of hiking boots, you’ll be safest in the mountains. We recommend boots that cover the ankles and have a good, grippy sole, especially for longer hikes. As some of our trails lead through alpine terrain, the ground can sometimes be rocky, uneven or slippery. Ideally, your hiking boots should also be breathable and waterproof, keeping your feet dry and comfortable in changing conditions.

The weather can change quickly in the mountains, which makes the right clothing especially important. The best approach is to dress in layers, allowing you to easily add or remove clothing depending on the temperature. Breathable functional clothing helps keep you comfortable and dry, even during an uphill climb. A waterproof and windproof jacket belongs in your backpack on every longer hike – even if the sun is shining when you set off. After all, mountain weather sometimes has a mind of its own. 😉

A well-fitting hiking backpack is the perfect companion for a day in the mountains. It should have enough space for drinks, a small snack, extra clothing, sun protection and weatherproof gear without being unnecessarily heavy.

Hiking poles are particularly useful on longer hikes and on steep or uneven trails. They provide additional support and stability and help to reduce strain on your knees and joints, especially when walking downhill.

And the best part: We provide our guests with hiking backpacks and hiking poles free of charge throughout their stay. Just ask us, and you’ll be ready for your next mountain adventure.

In the mountains, cooler temperatures and a light breeze can easily make the sun feel less intense than it actually is. At the same time, UV radiation increases with altitude, making good sun protection especially important.

Even in cloudy or foggy weather, you shouldn’t underestimate the sun. UV rays can still reach your skin, even when you can hardly see or feel the sunshine. Magdalena knows this from experience – she once managed to get quite a sunburn on a cloudy hiking day. 😉

That’s why high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat or cap should always be part of your hiking gear. And on longer hikes, don’t forget to reapply your sunscreen regularly.

Even though our hiking trails are generally well signposted and marked, we recommend always carrying a traditional hiking map in your backpack. It helps you keep an overview of your route and surroundings – without having to rely on mobile reception or battery life.

You can purchase a suitable hiking map of the region directly from us at reception. For many of our recommended hikes, we also provide a digital route to help you find your way. Ideally, use both – and you’ll be well prepared for your mountain adventure

Checking the weather forecast is an essential part of planning any hike. Only when you have an idea of what weather to expect can you plan your tour accordingly and pack the right equipment. Weather conditions can also change quickly in the mountains, so it’s always worth keeping an eye on the forecast throughout the day.

For planning your hike, we recommend the official South Tyrol weather portal, where you’ll find both the general weather forecast and the latest mountain weather information.

Sometimes it’s the little things that make the biggest difference along the way. A small first-aid kit, blister plasters and any personal medication should always have a place in your backpack, especially on longer hikes. Tissues and a small pocket knife can also be useful companions in the mountains.

This way, you’ll be prepared for minor mishaps and can enjoy your mountain adventure with greater peace of mind.

Although we hope you’ll never need it, the European emergency number 112 is one of the most important numbers to remember when heading into the mountains. Make sure your phone is sufficiently charged before setting off – and for longer hikes, a power bank can also be useful.

For longer or more challenging tours, we also recommend letting someone know which route you’re planning to take. This way, someone will have an idea of where you are in case of an emergency. Most importantly, if you find yourself in a difficult situation, stay calm, move to a safe place if possible and call for help in good time.
